Chef José Castillo and owner Laura Matamoros showcase the flavours of their native country. Meals are made with love from scratch with each order, and the new menu is 100% gluten-free with many vegetarian and vegan options. Aroma is a slow food Mexican restaurant. “Good food takes time. We want our guests to relax and enjoy a traditional experience,” says Laura. If you‘re looking for real Mexico City dining style, not Tex-Mex or fast food, Aroma is the perfect place. Aroma also offers daily and weekly specials.

Atmosphere & Accolades

The décor at this colourful and fun 13-table restaurant with additional Main Street patio seating. The atmosphere is intended to emulate a Mexican family kitchen table, perfect for sharing meals, stories and margaritas. Aroma is a previous Where Magazine Best New Restaurant award winner.

  • Street Tacos: Basa Fish with Garlic Aioli; Coffee Pork Carnitas; Pork al Pastor; BC Mushrooms; Beef Picadillo; Tinga Chicken
  • Chicken Flautas: chicken breast wrapped in corn tortilla, topped with lettuce, feta, sour cream, picked red onions served rice, available only on Wednesdays
  • Buffalo Burger: Alberta ground buffalo, chipotle aioli, bacon, pico de gallo
  • Burrito Platters: Choose between slow cooked pork, beef picadillo or sautéed veggies, comes with homemade salsa, black beans and rice

  • Appetizers: Daily Homemade Soup; Pico de Gallo; Fresh Handmade Guacamole; Ceviche; Calamari San Jose; Spicy Garlic Prawns
  • Seafood Soup: Mexican Bouillabaisse in tomato chipotle broth, garlic bread
  • Chicken or Veggie Enchiladas: topped with Monterey jack and old cheddar or feta and a choice of five salsas, served with rice and beans
  • Jose’s Relleno Poblano: stuffed pepper filled with feta cheese, baked with tomato ranchero salsa, melted Monterey jack and cheddar, served with rice and beans, vegan option available
  • Fajitas: Pork Tenderloin al Pastor; AAA Alberta Angus Beef; Chicken; Seafood; Veggie; Vegan; comes with homemade tortillas, cheese, and salsas
  • Salmon Mixiote: huajillo tomato salsa, vegetables, wrapped in a banana leaf
  • Desserts: Crème Brûlée Cheesecake; Mexican Flan; Chocolate Black Bean Brownie: raspberry topping; Mango Merengue Mousse; Bunuelos
