Sophisticated flavour is the ethos of this Canmore Indian restaurant. The large menu features both classic favourites and new creations, seemlessly blending eastern and western tastes. Every dish is prepared with authentic spices (imported by the restaurant’s owners) by chefs trained in India. There are many gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. Green Chili also offers take-out (10% off October through April) and delivery (free October through April with $40 purchase). Specials include midweek thali lunch combos. Buffets are offered for groups of 30 or more (book ahead).

Atmosphere

Green Chili has a modern, vibrant red and chic grey interior. There are big windows in the front of the restaurant, wooden tables and chairs, and a sleek bar with flatscreen TVs. Indian art (including jewellery) adorns the walls.

Lunch & Dinner Menu Samples

  • Thali 7-Item Lunch Special ($16): with salad, rice, naan, curries and dessert
  • Appetizers: vegetable and beef samosas; paneer pakora (deep fried cottage cheese); fish pakora; kachumbar salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, spices); Green Chili vegetable or meat platter
  • Vegetarian: paneer do piaza (cheese cooked with peppers and cilantro); aloo gobi (cauliflower and potatoes cooked in spices); dal makhani (black lentils with spices, rich cream and butter); peshawari chole (chickpeas with spices)
  • Chicken: butter chicken; mango chicken; korma (cooked in mild curry with almonds and cashews); vindaloo (spicy, cooked with potatoes)
  • Lamb, Beef and Goat: curries; korma; palak/saag (cooked in spinach and spices); roganjosh (cooked with onion and tomato gravy, and lemon juice)
  • Tandoori Khazana: chicken tikka (marinated in yogurt); garlic prawns (marinated in turmeric); sheekh kabab (seasoned ground beef cooked on skewers)
  • Seafood: prawn malai curry (simmered in coconut milk); prawn or fish
    vindaloo; mango shrimp (cashew sauce); butter prawn (chef’s special sauce)
  • Madras City Specialties: lamb, beef, goat, chicken, fish or prawns; cooked in South Indian-style hot and spicy coconut based sauce
  • Naan (plain, garlic or cheese); Tandoori Roti (wheat flour); Aloo Kulcha (potato)
  • Biryani (house specialty rice): chicken, lamb or beef cooked with spices
  • Desserts: ras malai (chilled cheese patties in sweet, creamy sauce); gulab jamun (milk pastry balls with crushed nuts in sweet syrup); rice pudding

Drinks: wines $27 to $35, $5.50 to $7 by the glass; beer includes Indian Kingfisher and Taj Mahal $5.50 to $7

Lunch Special (Mon-Fri): Thali Combo, with vegetarian option. Sample offering: Naan, salad, basmati rice, pakoras, meat or vegetable curry, butter chicken, rice pudding: $16.
